[CLOSING DATE: Fri, 13 Jul 2018] Do you have a keen interest in contributing to the decision making processes at the heart of local government?.......We are looking for someone to lead the Democratic Services Team to provide comprehensive, efficient and high-quality administrative support to the Council, Executive Board and all other meetings forming part of the Council’s political management structure to ensure all decisions are taken in accordance with the law and the Council’s Constitution.
Closely working with Councillors to support the Council’s decision making processes you will need: a proven track record of successfully managing staff/teams and successfully managing formal committee meetings in a similar organisation; the ability to interpret and apply legislation; high-level communication and writing skills; excellent organisational skills; the ability to consistently meet demanding deadlines in a pressurised environment; and the ability to work effectively in a complex, political and high-profile environment. An understanding of the role of scrutiny in a local authority setting would be advantageous.
Comprehensive knowledge of local government, the role of councillors and decision-making processes together with political awareness is essential. The post also requires a high level of flexibility and excellent organisational and interpersonal skills as you must be able to manage the interface between officers and elected representatives with tact and diplomacy. A firm grasp of the use and application of IT systems, including committee management software, is essential.
The post also manages the Office Services Team to provide business support in the Guildhall including Legal services.
